Psychological Issues counselling can support

Depression Counselling- sometimes live events can leave people feeling cut off, shut down or lifeless. It can be hard to get out of bed and you may lack the usual energy. Counselling aims to help you feel alive again by experiencing life, forming enriching relationships and finding fulfilment. Some people who come to see me have been depressed for many years and whilst therapy isn't necessary a a quick fix for long standing problems , it can instil a sense of hope and purposefulness over time that can move you forward. Anxiety Counselling- Often anxious people who come to see me, carry around a knot in their stomach, a sense of panic and dread. Counselling aims to discover the roots and triggers for anxiety and to find ways of alleviating it long term. Sometimes, anxiety is about trauma from the past ( either one off or lots of small ones) that needs to be resolved whilst other times it can be a sign that something isn't right in your life, that something needs to change. I find that sometimes other feelings such as grief and anger, when pushed down, cause anxiety and you might need help to fully express some difficult feelings. Please get in contact to arrange a free initial consultation. Part of our work will be helping you to feel resourced, sustained and grounded.

Addictions counselling- Addictions are notoriously difficult to break and often require a lot of support. They often seek to fill some sort of need whether that is emotional regulation, managing painful feelings, filling a gap inside of ourselves or coping with stress. The problem is that addictions can harm us- psychologically, physically, financially and in our relationships. Therapy aims to help clients feel more stable and able to face the world with out relying on addictions that can be harmful to them. It aims to build resilience and address the root causes of addiction. Please get in touch to arrange a free initial consultation.

Relationship counselling- Relationships are central to our life whether they be at work or at home. Sometimes, they can be hard to navigate and therapy gives you an opportunity to understand relationships at a deeper level and form closer bonds. Therapy can also be an opportunity to understand dynamics between you and others- finding answers to important questions in relationships such as 'what exactly is going on here?'. The way I work aims to give you choice over how you are in relationships and ultimately to seek ones that are fulfilling to you. Please get in touch to arrange a free initial consultation. Adoption Counselling- Are you adopted or affected by adoption? I am an adoption counsellor who aims to help people make sense of adoption and address some of the difficulties that can come with it. Disruptions in early life can cause painful issues around rejection, abandonment and relationships. Some people I see, talk of 'feeling different' to everyone else. Therapy is an opportunity to work through some of these things with someone who understands adoption. Please get in touch to arrange a free initial consultation.

Child counselling- I work with 0-17 year old as well as adults. Growing up can be tough and presents many challenges, therapy can make this process less difficult and help resolve issues that are holding children and their families back from enjoying life. I use creative methods to help engage children at their level and express what is going on for them. This might include sandtray work, puppetry, music, clay, art and play therapy. Typically, I work with issues around anger/conflict, grief/sadness, self-harm, suicidal thoughts and low self esteem. I sometimes work closely with parents/carers and their child to create secure attachments and understanding. Please get in touch to arrange a free initial consultation.

I am a member of the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy and work with clients who require psychological assessment or work as dictated by the courts.
